I am unclear on your box dimensions and position, but I think you mean you
have created a box Y=2m, X=.5m Z=.5m, with the bottom of the box centered @
0,0,0.
Try the tranparency setting at 0,
in Texture use Grid
Size = 1,1,1
Falloff= 0,50,0
value =100%
Center= 0,0,0 (starts at bottom of box)
Line Thickness =1.0
This should give you a box 100% transparent at the bottom, 100% opaque at the
top.
The grid lines are thick enough to touch, and no grid shows, just it's
falloff value used as a transparency map.
Try lowering line thickness until you see the grid emerge. The spaces
between the grid lines will have 0 transparency, the grid lines transparency
will vary with falloff.
Notice that the center of the texture (0,0,0) is most transparent, the other
end is least. Try shifting the center to 0,1,0 and you should see the middle
of the box become 100% transparent, with either end about 50%.
Using grid rather than a shaded image map saves memory and render time.
